Why is it that at 8pm on a Friday evening all i have to watch on tv is a cooking show and a garden show?

          Look you're a nice guy SigENeaT but it's 2010 - you're a shacker. I'm gonna speculate you're under 45 years old.

          Have you ever heard of.
          DVD's
          Blu Rays
          Youtube
          Xvids

There is a fucking goldmine (no pun intended) of shit all around you with the power of the internets.
What the fuck are you doing even considering watching TV. You should have a 2TB external drive there (incase your link is slow) and it should be fucking chock full of good shit.

You could end the internet right now for me and I would have enough shit to watch for 3 years.

I hate watching shit on a laptop. Using it to casually browse the web with it on my lap in bed is hard enough let alone trying to fuck around with movies as well.

The tv system in my room is locked down to the service that it provides through a proprietary system and like hell im going to buy my own tv just to spend more time in my room.

You'll have to get over that hate dude or use TV out on the laptop? Either way free to air is _dead_ I don't even know how you consider it an option.

For the record, do you know red2lucas? He's taken u pthe mining gig, got sick of doing IT - I believe he was intending to make some mad mad cash, how do you find it?

The tv is locked down. I would have to go get the master controller remote out of the comms room to edit my tv and its waaay too much effort when i just wanna chill at night.

I know red2lucas only through the shack. I should catch up with him for a beer or something shouldnt i =P

Working on a mine isnt too bad if you dont have a lifestyle which requires you to be in a city; ie children or partner you want to spend time with.

But there are definitely down sides which warrants the increased wage. I have to get up at 3:30am to fly to work each fortnight. I wake up at 4:30am to work a 12 hour day each day. When i come 'home' after work i eat and sleep along side the same people i work with during the day in a demountable room in the middle of nowhere. The food is alright and there is a pub but it is no where near like going out after work to relax. I never find myself being able to fully switch off at work either. As i am the site's sole IT support contact i am always concerned that shit is going to break at 11pm and ill have to wake up (i usually go to bed at 8:30pm), get changed in to work gear and drive to work to flick a switch. The only internet i have available to me is corporate filtered stuff. In fact i am extremely fortunate to even have internet in my room. When i want to fly home at the end of my shift i have to drive 2 hours to get to an airport, wait for another hour before getting on a plane for a near 2 hour flight home.

I could have broken that up into sentences but... meh =P

I have been working on mines for almost 4 years now. Fortunately the lifestyle fits me quite well for now. I sacrifice a lot working on mines. Sometimes i will go entire R&R breaks, 5 days, without seeing friends because they "want a weekend at home" when i want to go out and do something.

It's not all doom and gloom though. Pretty much everyone you work with is in the same boat, so if you arent all depressed about the situation you can meet and hang around with some great people whilst at work. Some of my closest mates i have now i met on a mine and worked with closely for a year or so.
