Xbox 360 Hardware Sales Pass 40 Million

34
Over 40 million Xbox 360 consoles have been shipped and sold to retailers since the gaming console launched in November 2005, maker Microsoft has revealed.

The revelation comes as part of the company's recent financial update, with competitors Nintendo and Sony expected to issue their respective reports in the near future as well. At last word, circa January 2010, the PlayStation 3 had racked up lifetime sales of 33.71 million units while the Wii had hit a record-breaking 67.45 million units.

While we're waiting, here's a breakdown of Xbox 360 shipments throughout the years:

    FY 2006 / July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2006: 5.0 million Xbox 360s
    FY 2007 / July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007: 6.6 million Xbox 360s
    FY 2008 / July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008: 8.7 million Xbox 360s
    FY 2009 / July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009: 11.2 million Xbox 360s
    FY 2010 / July 1, 2009 - March 31, 2010: 8.8 million Xbox 360s

I find it interesting that it still appears to be picking up steam. Makes me wonder what would've happened had they not been early to the market though.

Still picking up steam or RROD and one of the few million banned XBoxes re-purchasing.

Probably this. I bought my first 360 in Sept 2006 and I just purchased my third this weekend due to two RROD's. I am just really thankful that I bought the first one at Costco... both times I had issues they gave me a FULL refund on a gift card for the original price so I could buy a new one. Anyhow, the point is that I bet I count for three of those 40 million and I'm certain that plenty of other owners count for multiple purchases as well.

Why are you buying new consoels instead of getting them repaired? I've had two 360's go on me.. but I never paid a cent for the repairs.

snot3353 didn't pay a cent either and didn't have to wait more than just a few hours. Or did you reply without reading his whole post?

Mine RR'd last week and I sent it in for repair. No cost.

I'm not sure why someone would buy a new one if they can get one fixed for free.

How about reading my entire post before responding? At the end I explain that Costco takes back broken consoles and gives a FULL REFUND in the form of a gift card. I am able to simply buy a new console that day instead of having to wait weeks for a refurb.

I may have to buy a go to Costco and get a 360 then.

I've purchased a total of five 360s. My first RROD'ed on me. I later gave it to a friend. A second 360 I bought for my nephew. It has never RRODed, I think it's a falcon but I'm not sure, could be a Jasper. The three 360s that I still have in my home have never RROD'ed, one is a falcon, the other two are Jaspers. They all three get use, by myself and friends who come over and game. You guys never do that with your consoles? What's wrong with you dudes.

If it wasn't clear btw, the one 360 that RROD'd on me, I did have repaired under warranty. It has yet to break again in my friend's use.
