PS3 Firmware Update Brings Trophy List Sorting

16
A new firmware update will soon be available for the PlayStation 3, requiring mandatory installation if gamers wish to connect to the PlayStation Network. Version 3.30 isn't loaded with a ton of features, but should make sorting and comparing trophies a bit easier.

Additionally, the update does some prep-work for 3D gaming support, which will be launching later this year on the PS3. The change log is as follows:

  • Trophy enhancements - Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
    • Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
    • Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
    • Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)

Can they just stop with the silly stupid incrimental updates and just do one every 3 to 6 months with decent changes? This shit is getting old to even seasoned PS3 fans.

Let's try not to speak for everyone--it doesn't really bother me...

Yes but do you actually care about these pointless updates? Wouldn't you rather wait for a decent batch?

In general I don't care about the big updates either. The ps3 does for me what I need it to do right now, that is, stream media and play netflix. I rarely ever game on it. I'd also suspect it's easier to get the smaller updates right than the larger ones. YMMV.

It pisses me off if I want to play a game and I have to wait 15 minutes to patch. These small 2 minute deals work better for me personally.

When I had a PS3 back in the day, the updates took forever. Is that the issue? Or is it like xbox now where it's 5 seconds and a restart? If it's only small additions, I think that's great. Why make you wait longer than needed for a feature you might enjoy or use?

Probably because they're smaller now amirite?

Oh no, it's better but it's FAR from the speed of the 360 updates.

It hasn't bothered me at all, i've been playing ps3 pretty regularly too. I only noticed a couple of updates lately, and they didn't take much longer than I needed to hit the bathroom and get a drink.

I don't play my PS3 that often but every time I go to play a game I have to download a damn update. I really miss the days of turning on the console and playing my games. Remember when one of the main reasons of console gaming was to avoid this kind of stuff?

Unplug it from the internet, then you can live out all your old timey fantasies.

Not if the game you want to play depends on a newer firmware, then you'll still have to endure the update.

Its not the update that really bothers me, (i always feel as if im getting a present) its the worry of my ps3 getting half ass bricked five minutes after install... a present i do not what to get.

Right after typing that post, I honestly thought the update killed something in my ps3. I went to eject a game and it just beeped, then i looked and it showed NOTHING even being in the system, i was pissed!

Then I realized i took the game out earlier to clean it and forgot about it, heh

Alot of people online say updates have killed their system. It just makes me paranoid.

I did have a ps3 die after an update, im not sure it was the update and it probably wasnt. It was ironic however, that my friend not even a mile down the road, had the exact same thing happen to his ps3, after downloading the same update, the exact same time as me. Give or take a day or so...

          They stopped reading BR's
          DVD still worked

Im pretty sure the blueray diode died, and we both had 60GB systems and had to send'em in for refurbs... no warranty. Prolly just a crazy coincidence...
