World of Warcraft Pet Store Adds $25 Mount

46
Expanding the selection of World of Warcraft's Pet Store, Blizzard today added a $25.00 "Celestial Steed" to the online marketplace.

"The Celestial Steed is the first-ever mount to be available through the service," explained Blizzard, specifying that "this supernatural warhorse will fly as fast as your riding skill will take you, and it will travel at 310% speed if you have at least one other 310% mount."

A new premium-priced pet--Lil' XT--is also available to players of the popular MMO, sporting the same $10.00 price tag as earlier paid pet offerings Pandaren Monk and Lil' K.T., with the store still selling two $24.99 real-world plushes--Wind Rider Cub and Gryphon Hatchling--that each include "a matching in-game non-combat pet."

It's more than a copy of WoW.

They can cut a game into 3 pieces and charge $60 for the first piece, and people would still buy it.

I'm sorry but I'm in the beta, seeing at most 50% of the content that will be in the final release of Wings of Liberty and it's worth £40 right now. The claims that it's cut into three pieces are unfounded.

This horse for £17 though, it's just stupid.

That subscription fee doesn't pay for anything anymore it seems.

But it doesn't pay for this, which is the point.

Blizzard released some statistics back a while ago.

Something like running WoW for just one day. 24 hours... costs about $140k - $160k or something around that range if I remember correctly.

With 13 million subscribers, paying $15 a month, they make approximately 6.5 million dollars a day. I'm pretty sure that more than covers the servers and operating expenses.

Of course, not every one of those 13 million subscribers pays $15/mo.

A more accurate estimate would be 5 million players paying $15 a month, and 6 million players paying $3 a month or so.

So about $3 million per day, which is still ridiculous.

But their profit margin isn't $3 mill - 160K or whatever, you can easily see that by looking at investor reports. Their profit margin is still very high for a business, on the order of 45%, but not 90%.

Remember, there are people who will buy a $1000 app on an iPhone that does nothing other than display a diamond.
