PSP Social Networking App 'Room' Canceled

Announced during Tokyo Game Show 2009, development of "Room for PlayStation Portable" has now been halted by maker Sony.

Much like PlayStation Home for PlayStation 3, Room centered around avatar-based online communication and interaction with other users, including mini-games and media sharing.

Unlike PlayStation Home, Room was never released to the general public, with Sony noting that it received "valuable feedback" on Room during its closed beta phase.

The impetus behind the cancellation remain unknown, with the project's official site merely offering word of Sony's "decision to terminate the suspension of project development" and extending thanks to those that participated in the closed beta.
