Activision Raises Revenue Expectations on Back of Modern Warfare 2 DLC Sales

9
Activision has announced it is tracking ahead of initial revenue estimates for its fiscal March quarter of 2010 based upon "strong global demand for Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft and Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

The $15 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Map Pack, which broke a few Xbox Live DLC sales records, was originally planned for the June quarter, but was released early. One might speculate that the DLC was pushed up due to the then impending legal drama between publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward.

World of Warcraft sales beating expectations is good news for Blizzard as new subscriptions have been slowing for the company's insanely popular MMORPG.

A second map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is being developed by (those left at) Infinity Ward. The first map pack is currently available on the Xbox 360, but will be released on the PC and PlayStation 3 in May.

I mean the thing is, people are going to buy COD for a long time, I think most people would agree MW2 was the best FPS released in 2009, by far. In a sense, Activision is good to its customers, I mean look at all the free DLC PC players got for COD: World at War. I'm when MW3 comes out it will sell even better.

If you're going to protest something, you have to do it right. This reminds me of when people were boycotting L4D2 which was pretty unfounded in my opinion, people wanted more DLC from Valve, even though when you buy a game at its original price, that's what you're agreeing to get and anything else is a bonus.

I didn't buy it that's all I care about and from the sound of the game I saved $60. 4 to 5 hours of single player and no LAN play. I go to LAN parties so LAN play is a must have feature.

On PC it worked... MW2 had allready a 10% steamsale because they sold shit. Who cares about fucking consoles anyway. Oh yeah, Kotick does... he likes those little Xbox-kids, because they throw the money of their parents on everything that is advertised. Be proud america... (yes, america=xbox country...)

Thats funny because MW2 is still place 4 in the steam top seller list, and on release day everyone in the boycott group was playing it.
