Evening Reading: FPS Fever!
by Brian Leahy, Apr 14, 2010 5:00pm PDTThis morning, Take-Two announced that 2K Marin is developing an FPS game based upon X-COM. The outrage was palpable.
I'm willing to give 2K Marin a chance here. I'm sure this is a move meant to echo Bethesda's work with the Fallout franchise, which led to the creation of Fallout 3.
Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of Todd Howard and Bethesda's work than 2K Marin's, but we'll see what the studio can cook up.

The most recent X-Com based game, UFO: Extraterrestrials, copied a ton of shit right from X-Com, but they also added some stupid shit. From what I recall, this "UFO" game was made by a different developer? than the Aftermath, Aftershock, and Afterlight games.
That said, the UFO: Extraterrestrials is still pretty awesome if you have a boner for X-Com like I still do. There were tons of mods that people could create and add into the game, some guy who made the best mod, actually got his mod repackaged into the "Gold" version of the game (that came out somewhat recently). And the game was successful enough that they are working on UFO2Extraterrestrials: Shadows over Earth and that mod author is now part of the team creating the game, its due out at the end of this year. And just like how X-Com, went to the water in part 2, they are also adding this element too! So I'm looking forward to that in Q4. !
