Developer of Syndicate Revival Confirmed

Concrete evidence that The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness developer Starbreeze has been resurrecting Bullfrog's classic cyberpunk real-time tactical series Syndicate comes today in the form of copyright filings noticed by superannuation.

Three separate documents--a license agreement, copyright mortgage and assignment, and sidecar short form assignment and assumption agreement--show Electronic Arts and Starbreeze partnering under the "Syndicate" copyright as of June 19, 2009.

We've long known that Electronic Arts was readying a Syndicate revival, with various rumors pointing to Starbreeze as the developer. Starbreeze and Electronic Arts partnered in 2007 on something codenamed Project RedLime, billed as a PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 reinvention of one of EA's "most acclaimed classic franchises."

Electronic Arts and Starbreeze were also working on a second project, based off Robert Ludlum's "action hero" Jason Bourne, though that was apparently the game put on hold earlier this year as Electronic Arts told the Los Angeles Times that it and the Ludlum Estate are now just "discussing making a game based on the Bourne franchise."
