Gears of War 3 Officially Announced

[Update - 4:28am CST] Publisher Microsoft has announced worldwide release dates for Gears of War 3: April 5, 2011 in North America and Asia, April 7 in Japan, April 8 in Europe.

[Original] The third entry in Epic Game's third-person shooter series Gears of War will indeed be released on Xbox 360 in April 2011, design director Cliff Bleszinski affirmed on tonight's episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Describing the project as "the worst kept secret in the video game industry," Bleszinski premiered the game's debut trailer and confirmed several details, including the presence of tentacled foes, female soldiers and a double-barreled shotgun.

"[Gears of War 3's release will] probably be around April 8," Bleszinski concluded.

Oh wow! A new fresh take on the FPS genre, we got:

- A new threat GREATER than the previous threat, this will make it like, I dunno, 10 TIMES FUNNER!
- Rehashed weapons, DOUBLE BARRELED shotgun, wow new invention, never seen one of these before!
- Transition from a brown/gray color palette to a gray/brown color palette. errrrr....
- Addition of female characters, will really add to the story, you know, can you imagine the potential love scenes and all.
- Same old Unreal Engine 3, circa 1983, but with ADDED bloom!

Yea, looking forward to this one.

I think it would be awesome if they were all killed at the end and the world becomes completely destroyed so that no one can use it. Seems like the perfect game for one last epic battle where all of your squad gets taken down and once the dust is settled the Earth is just a cratered heap of dust.

So will this be a first person shooter now? I only played the first one (on PC) and while it was impressive for the time, it was kinda boring. Didn't try the second one but I liked the trailer describing the technical achievements it claimed to have, but since it never came out on the PC I couldn't try it.
