Quake3 v117 Released

A new version of Quake3 has been released. v117 which is not compatible with previous versions. This 117 release fixes a 'fairly serious' security issue that involved malicious server admins possibly overwriting files on client machines. There are also a couple of fixes for server crashes in there. Not sure if the 'shakes' bug for servers with long uptimes has been fixed. Here are the files for you:

This patch fixes a fairly serious security flaw in Quake 3 Arena. Internet Security Systems identified the flaw and notified us with reproduction details as well as an overview of the exploit. The basic nature of the exploit is that malicious server operators could overwrite any file on a client system. This type of thing is always possible with DLL based mods ( which is why we strongly recommend VM based mods ) but with this exploit, it was possible within the VM system. To help facilitate a rapid transition to the new codebase we have also bumped the network protocol version. This means 1.17 is not network compatibile with any prior version. The install also includes all 3 PK3 files, because the original "pak1.pk3" was not included in the final 1.16 release for Mac and Win32 builds. This will address some pure server connection issues. You will have to have all 3 pak files present to connect to a pure server. In addition to this security fix, we have also fixed the following: - Callvote to single player game type causes the server to crash. - Crash in bot initialization on some systems

    So, you think you're "l33t"?

    I once had so many blue "impressive" logos floating above my model that I crashed the server.

    Sometimes when i`m playing nightmare bots and I start to get those yellow "excellent" symbols above my head I get so many that the framerate drops to about 5 fps so I can no longer see what direction the bots are moving in but I still know where to shoot so I have to deliberately miss just to keep the framerate manageable.

    Tomorrow i`m due to play DC.Giant on q3tourney2. I`m going to try to beat him using nothing but rotating on the spot. If I time it right I can frighten him into the precipice

    You know you're l33t when you win maps on q3tourney2 against 6 people from clan [9] simply by constantly scaring everybody down the precipice near the armour&teleporter, you can`t help but be big-headed. I never even pressed fire. In fact, I don`t even have fire bound to any key or movement I just jump at exactly the right time to scare them off. Final score was 0 to me, and -6 to HAkeem, -7 to Nikodemus, -10 to xenon

    Yes, I have played Clan Deathrow. I played 5 of them on The Longest Yard: THRESH, MAKA, UNHOLY, D2B2, IMMORTAL AND FRICK. I made heavy use of the quad buzz saw to bring home a comfortable victory. Yes - they claimed to be tired. They said they were jetlagged after having had to walk from their sitting room to their bedrooms to get to their pc`s. Also, at one point in the game I deliberately (and unknown to them) engineered for them to be lined up in a line. At this point, I railed them and got 5 kills and one near kill whereupon the guy who I didn`t kill cratered 1 second later. At one point I air-rox`ed thresh after he grabbed quad (I let him get it). He died and dropped the quad, it was falling off the level so I did an inverse rj, actually using the blast force to fall faster than the quad, caught it then quad-rj`s off thresh`s falling body to get back up onto the level simultaneously grabbing the 100h and railing Unholy. They said I was the best player they had ever played but said I couldn`t join Deathrow because I would take all the limelight, so I put my handicap up from 25 to 50 and wooped them hardcore.
