Shack PSA: MLB 2K10 PC Just $2.99 Today
by Chris Faylor, Apr 05, 2010 10:20am PDTWith the Major League Baseball season officially kicking off, retailer GameStop is celebrating with a ridiculously deep discount on 2K Sports' MLB 2K10 PC.
Normally $29.99, the 7.07GB download has been marked down to just $2.99--that's 90% off--under the guise of GameStop's "Daily Deal." The sale only applies to a digital download of the PC edition--all other versions (PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP and PC Retail) have retained their respective pricing.
Each purchase includes three licenses, which, according to GameStop, "means you may install the game on other computers and activate it up to 3 times." Be forewarned that GameStop will automatically add a $3.95 "Download Insurance" charge to your cart alongside the game--meant to ensure that "a back up copy of these Digital Good(s) will be available to you for download for up to eighteen (18) months from the date of purchase"--though this can be removed. Oddly, it's not clear how long the download will be available if that insurance is not purchased. Thanks Lunatic Angelic .

By offering download insurance, they imply that without it I won't be able to re-download a title that I've bought digitally. At that point, I've lost interest in ever using their digital business. Re-downloading a title for a variety of reasons (system reinstall, going between work and home computers, HDD crashed, etc) is one of the biggest benefits of digital. Re-downloading a title should cost nothing. GameStop is implying that it does.... on their service. They're trying to make digitally distributed games into a physical, one time download. Shame on them.

Apparently they are actually patching this thing at some point, so it is an issue. Though for 3$, I guess not a massively huge issue. :P
