Quake 2 Ported to HTML5 with Multiplayer
by Brian Leahy, Apr 02, 2010 6:20pm PDTOur own Arctic Fox spotted Google Code-hosted port of id Software's legendary first-person shooter Quake 2 to HTML5, which contains numerous enhancements over HTML 4.01 and is largely regarded as the biggest competitor to Adobe's Flash platform.
HTML5 is currently supported in Google's own Chrome web browser and Apple's Safari browser. HTML5 is also useful for streaming video. YouTube has an open beta you can participate in to view supported videos through the HTML5 player.

Porting a C game to javascript on cutting edge APIs? Much more difficult and much cooler. :)
(plug for QUAKE LIVE www.quakelive.com. It's not an experiment in cutting edge web technology, but it is great Quake action for free in a browser.)
