Star Wars: The Old Republic Adds 'Sarlacc' Class as BioWare Celebrates April Fools'

6
Good news, everyone! BioWare's rolled out an April Fools' gag that doesn't cost money.

As work on Star Wars: The Old Republic continues down at BioWare Austin, the team has opted to celebrate April Fools' Day 2010 with the revelation of the (not really) playable Sarlacc Enforcer class. Yes, that toothy hole in the ground. That's the Sarlacc.

But wait, there's more! On top of screenshots and concept art, a few brief videos were released to demonstrate the Sarlacc's various attacks, such as ....waiting patiently.

Capable of slowly digesting its prey over a thousand years, the Sarlacc often keep several "meals" on hand to use as ballistic rounds. Using an undigested blaster to ignite a charge of gas, the Sarlacc spits an undigested victim at its target with a velocity approaching 500 meters per second.

The Sarlacc has a preternatural awareness of when and where its targets will appear. Often, the Sarlacc will wait in the sand until its prey approaches, before pouncing in a flurry too fast for human eyes to see.

The Sarlacc has naturally developed some abilities that easily overshadow weaponry touted as "state-of-the-art." Relying on extreme feats of mental acuity to channel the energy and instantly perform targeting calculations, this signature Sarlacc laser battery could easily cut through an entire planet.

Speaking of waiting patiently, BioWare's PC MMO isn't expected until Spring 2011.

What's the point of April Fools if you come out and say "Hay evarybody, it's April Fools!" everytime. Whatever happened to going along with the joke and then laughing at the people that fell for it? I'm not saying anyone would fall for this or the Blizzard dating service, but Tony Hawk coming to iPhone would've gotten a lot of people. lol Like we need a mobile Tony Hawk game, those tricksters!

I'm kind of tired of doing that with the other news sites I frequent, trying to sift the jokes from the news.

I'd rather have it this way, so I can just skim the general idea of the jokes without spending much time on it. But now you have me ruining that plan by replying to you. Gah.

bingo. there's no real advantage to actively trying to mislead your readers.

I really hate the April Fools pranks that actually try to fool people. It is a stupid day that tells people Hey! It's okay to be an ass! Note: It is not okay, you're just a jerk. Now, stuff like Blizzard's overblown hilarious stuff? That's awesome. Stuff like Marvel vs Capcom 3, not cool. (Oh man you guys totally wanted that sweet game we told you about earlier? HAW HAW SUCKERS.) Stuff that was relayed via magazine or timedelayed things, even dumber ("Man, that thing you read in March about Sonic and Tails in SSBM? TOTALLY PRANKED DUDE HAW HAW")

Enough ranting, I guess, but April Fools Day is lame.

Too obvious. Sarlacc as a class? April Fools jokes are meant to be subtle, not dumb.
