With Sam Fisher facing hard times in Splinter Cell: Conviction, developer Ubisoft Montreal has turned to The Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash, to imbue the stealth shooter's launch trailer with an appropriate sense of grim determination.

Having already gone gold, Splinter Cell: Conviction will be released for Xbox 360 on April 13 in North America then April 15 in Europe, with the PC edition due to follow around April 27--and packing Ubisoft's troubled and ever-controversial new DRM scheme.

ShXIII is probably referring to the fact that you'll have to have internet access any time you run the game. Assassin's Creed 2 already has this requirement, which is why I won't be getting it til it hits the bargain bin. It's too bad, as I was one of the people that liked the first one, and was looking forward to the second.

You should buy the game and if the pirates try to DOS the servers again you get a free game

I didnt get my free game. Do you know how it was distributed? No email, no nothing. Still playing AC2 and since my internet is still the same old crappy connection, I'm still getting disconnected from time to time (I can already see it happens when my Steam suddenly lost its friend list). At least Steam wont boot me out of their game. Damn Ubi.

Please tell me how this is any different than what Blizzard is doing with StarCraft 2? I really don't get what is so different about Ubisoft's "new" creation. They are not the original creators of the idea at all. This has been going on for years with various companies. For example (again) StarCraft 2 requires you to login to their Battle.net account before you can play Single player, and it dose not even allow you to LAN. Point in case, the only real reason people won't buy this shitty DRM is because if the server goes down your FUCKED...Simple as that, and with money tight now days people want to spend fifty dollars on a game they can play at 3 A.M. without server maintenance being a problem for there single player game play.

Also pirates are slipping in with the common man to bitch and moan about this ruthless DRM, and I am sure there are some here right now complaining about it.

Blizzard is not doing this. You need an Internet connection to activate the game and that's it (for single player). You can play offline til your heart's content with no further need to connect to their servers.

exactly people are so ignorant to just how bad Ubisofts DRM is its sickening

It is sickening. But sadly I think those that do find it sickening and won't buy the games that use it are in the minority and will have little impact. And that impact will be lessened by those that don't like it but will still buy it, whether for the PC or even the console. I really don't like to encourage the bad behavior but I hope their servers get attacked again when this launches.

Ill just have to wait until its in a bargain bin before i try it, I've already seen a seller trying to get rid of it on amazon for 23 dollars, just a matter of time before I can get it less then $10. The shitty part is i was more then happy to give them (support ubisoft) full retail price and in fact had pre-orders that I later cancelled because of the DRM. I pity those who won't buy this game because of the DRM. It's not as bad as it sounds, I can fully understand the reason of not buying this game if you aren't connected to the Internet all the time, but otherwise no.

I still think that Ubisoft gave us a chance somehow. Their latest Prince of Persia was released without any DRM at all? Maybe it didn't get enough sales, and therefore they went like "**** this, let's make one hell of DRM". I definitely love Splinter Cell nonetheless, hope this game will be great!

I think it sucks too. I'm more than willing to pay the money for these game if the DRM wasnt so bad. I do NOT buy a game to have the publisher/developer tell me when/how I can and cannot play a game, it's bullshit plain and simple
