Battlefield 1943 Sells One Million on Xbox Live Arcade

14
Electronic Arts sends word that Battlefield 1943, DICE's downloadable multiplayer-only re-imagining of Battlefield 1942, has become the fastest selling Xbox Live Arcade title to move 1 million units since its release in July 2009.

The game, which costs 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), served as a bite-sized preview to future Battlefield games and allowed gamers to check out the new version of developer DICE's game engine, Frostbite, before Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was released.

It would appear that this strategy is effective. The above sales figures don't include sales on the PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Store, and the oft-promised PC version has still yet to launch. Recent reports have suggested that Electronic Arts is considering similar paid downloads to build up buzz for upcoming retail releases.

Other companies are alsop exploring this strategy. Atomic Games president Peter Tamte told me his new title, Breach, will be marketed with this strategy: a $15 downloadable game that offers a bite-sized experience instead of a full-on retail game at $60.

I doubt there will be a PC version at this point.

Who knows. I was hoping they would decide to be cool and integrate the game into BC2 for PC.

this, a more full featured 1942 throw back DLC would be awesome, though i would want 6 maps instead of 3.

I doubt there is a big point of releasing it as an "appetizer" now that BC2 is out. That, and the long silence about the PC version leads me to that conclusion.

Although I'd love to play it on PC.

Maybe they are gonna wait to release it as an appetizer for BF3.......eeeh wishful thinking I know.

They shouldn't even bother given that I know few, if any that would pick it up for the PC now that BC2 is out. I most certainly wouldn't. Now if they were to release those maps (which BC2 badly needs is more maps) - I might be open to playing them (again... and again...).

The Battlefield Blog has word that Battlefield 1943 has reached the one million unit sales milestone on Xbox LIVE Arcade faster than any previous game. So far the World War II shooter has sold zero units on the PC, but this may change shortly, as they say: "Soon our PC fans will also be able to get in on the action that Xbox 360 and PS3 users have been enjoying since July 2009." Last August EA announced BF1943 for the PC was delayed until early this year.

This really breaks my heart. I waited out buying it on consoles for so long, but considering how long it's been I find it hard to believe we'll ever see it.
