As promised by last week's The Secret World teaser trailer, developer Funcom has unveiled a trailer with a few gameplay snippets from its semi-real-world MMORPG directed by Dreamfall: The Longest Journey writer and game director Ragnar Tørnquist.

"The new video reveals locations, monsters, characters and gameplay, yet it is barely scratching the surface of what the game will deliver," says Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas in a press statement. "The universe that we are creating in and around 'The Secret World' is massive, with real-world locations, urban legends, myths and conspiracies."

The Secret World is planned for release on PC and Xbox 360--though that was also the case with Funcom's previous MMO Age of Conan, which has still yet to hit Xbox 360 almost two years after the PC edition came out. No release date is yet known.

It's taken them a really long time to come out with another Longest Journey. In retrospect, the journey wasn't all that long. Maybe it should be called "The Longest Weekend"

I figure that they're trying really hard to get into the MMOG scene so they can make obscene amounts of cash. But even if they're making billions of dollars a year, that still doesn't mean TLJ3 will get here any sooner, does it? I mean, look at Blizzard Studios -- off the top of my head I can't name a single game they've made within memory that's not WOW-based.

    [sigh]

I guess nobody has heard of Anarchy Online?! They've been making MMO's longer than Blizzard has.
