Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Trailer Shows Future War
by Alice O'Connor, Mar 26, 2010 7:10am PDTUbisoft has released a swish new Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier cinematic trailer, blending footage of real actors and places with CGI to show off its vision of near-future warfare with technology including adaptive camouflage and combat bots.
The PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions are by Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter dev Ubisoft Paris, while Wii, PSP and DS versions are being developed elsewhere.
Future soldier is due to hit PS3 and 360 in the 2010 holiday season and Ubisoft says all other versions are out before Christmas 2010, though it's uncertain whether this applies to the PC too as Ubisoft cryptically said it "will tell more about the PC version later."

The original is still the best imo. =p
What sci fi? Unless I missed something, there were no aliens or space ships. Those robots were very similar to what is begin prototyped in the real world. In fact, I bet alot of it was based on early designs for real world weaponry. The "stealth" thing is actually being looked into right now, even if it's not quite as advanced as the one in the video. Is it just some irresistible urge to label everything that doesn't look like a carbon copy of the modern world as "sci fi"?
I thought it looked amazing. And from what I can tell, it's still very much Ghost Recon. The tactical focus is still very much there. They use a sniper to monitor and take out targets from long range, and use stealth to slip past enemies. Technology plays a huge role in real war, like it does here. The better tech you have, the more effective you can be against the enemy.
Shoulder rockets? So what? Are you telling me that being able to take out armored targets without taking the time to switch to a bulky shoulder mounted weapon wouldn't give you the advantage? There's nothing sci fi about it. This is all just an extrapolation of the Land Warrior system

This has more to do with crysis and Geas of War, then GRAW. Cloaking devices, small rockets taking down uparmored t90's and scopes that show media clips... come on!
I want some nice future spec-ops/infantry fighting, not some scifi spacemarine run and gun shooter. I could just play HALO for that.
Give me some "near-tech" and a game where you need to think a little.

Look at how the United States currently takes down high risk targets like this. Sure, they send in soldiers to do the job at times. But if there is a risk for high friendly casualties, they send in the Predators and take down targets with precision missile strikes.
Given how successful this technique has been for the U.S. in modern day warfare, I can't help but think it would be even more successful in the future where this Ghost Recon is set.
I've always held Ghost Recon in high esteem for its use of realistic tactics and gameplay, especially the earlier PC versions, and its a shame that this iteration doesn't extrapolate future warfare based on these values.

Reminds me of "Captain Power".

That's really disappointing for me. I guess mature gamers are just no longer their target audience.

Call it "Tom Clancy: Future Soldier" and leave the Ghost Recon out of it.
I've always secretly loved the Ghost Recon series. Let's hope this one doesn't disappoint. If Activision gets their shit straight, we gamers could be blessed with three extremely high production war shooters (CoD and BF being the other two). The competition and variety between the three will drive the genre and I hope all three are successful.
