Fan-Favorite Mai Returns in The King of Fighters XIII

Japanese blog Andriasang spotted the new teaser site for the arcade version of The King of Fighters XIII, which is set for a summer release in Japan.

The teaser image proudly features fan-favorite Mai Shiranui along with the game's logo. Mai was not in The King of Fighters XII, which was released in the US by Ignition Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Series fans largely consider KOFXII an engine and animation test for KOFXIII, which will supposedly be a more full-featured (and rostered) game in the franchise. No plans have been announced for console versions at this time, in Japan or abroad, but a port is very likely given franchise history.

I hope they really make this one worth it. After SFVI and BlazBlue, I was also excited about a KoF revival only to hear nothing but bad things about it.

Almost all of the more recent KoF games have had bad lag, though. The only thing I hate about SNK. They can make a gorgeous looking game, but they are so frame dependent, that any little hiccup can cost you ten-fold. I'm really glad that Capcom has learned the lesson the hard way, and gotten better, but it's too bad that SEGA's really the only one to make it nearly 100% lag-free on online for their fighters. Capcom and SNK should take a page or two from them.
