Battlefield: BC2 Server Update Fixes Issues

27
Shacknews community member Iwannaacura spotted a forum post on the EA UK boards detailing a new server patch for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

The patch, which clients will not have to download, is being distributed to server operators right now.

There is no official changelog, but the word from DICE is that "early signs from the hosts are good with 20% less load on the server CPU, improved hit detection, Veteran rank handling is fixed so you should get your M1 Garand back now plus some other fixes to better help the server hosting companies and better management of Punkbuster ID's."

Kudos to EA and DICE for getting this out right as the weekend begins.

These guys are showing superb release-time support of their game. I'm glad I've bought it.

I agree, this is the best game I have played in years. I find myself excited to go home and blow off my girlfriend to play BC2 lol :) The class balance is excellent and the destructible environments never get old! Plus the vehicles are fun as hell, sick weapons, etc etc etc I would be playing right now but I'm on a break after putting in a 4 hour bad company shift! Thanks DICE!

it would be nice if DICE could for once release a PC game that doesn't require this amount of patching right from the start. as a long time Battlefield player this is unfortunately par for the course with them and i would rather they get all the critical parts working properly before releasing it (hello server browser and friends list).

Is it really that bad though? I thought even in the beta it was a great game with just a few tweaks.

There have definitely been issues, Beta was acceptable because.. it's a beta, but for the issues to persist and even get worse into retail is no good. That said, I've had no problem playing 30+ hours of BFBC2 :D

Hey, at least enemies seem to be consistently drawn with red names, and friends with blue names. For them, it's such an accomplishment. :)

Now they just need to put up their stats website... 3rd party stuff is decent, the queues/delays to update them suck though.
