Rebellion Confirms Layoffs, Derby Studio Closure
by Chris Faylor, Mar 18, 2010 10:10am PDTAliens vs. Predator and Rogue Warrior developer Rebellion has decided to close its studio in Derby, following a review and restructuring period that began back in January.
In addition, the company confirmed to Develop that it laid off an unspecified number of junior staff at its main headquarters in Oxford. Rebellion Derby, formerly known as original Tomb Raider developer Core Design, was most recently responsible for Rogue Warrior. Rebellion Oxford, meanwhile, handled development of Aliens vs. Predator.
While word of the Derby studio closure comes as no great shock, the layoffs at Oxford are somewhat surprising as, back in January when Rebellion began to "review the need" for Derby, the company noted "recruitment is ongoing both in Oxford and in Runcorn."

[Rebellion CEO Jason] Kingsley said that the developer, which created the original Aliens vs. Predator game back in 1994, has “two unannounced titles at different stages of development†which they hope to be unveiling soon. He also said that they’ve done well with some of their back catalogue titles such as Sniper Elite and the original AvP. Kingsley continued to say that they will now focus on DLC for the newest AvP and are “thinking about the potential for a sequel and how we can make it an even better game.â€
