Resident Evil Creator Mikami Forms New Studio

Shinji Mikami, the mind behind Resident Evil, will be forming a new studio, Tango, after finishing Vanquish for PlatinumGames and publisher SEGA. The information comes to us in the latest issue of Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, spotted by 1UP.

What's it all about? Well, Mikami just wants to help the next generation, saying:

One of the reasons I'm building a company is to raise the game makers of the future, people who haven't gone pro yet. Game development is often overseen from a pure business perspective here, which is unique to Japan, and I have the impression that environment tends to prune away young talent. I really want to make Tango a company run from a creator's perspective, one that expands upon new talent.

While no specific project has been announced, Mikami feels like it may take "about three years" before Tango releases its first game. He also hopes that the company, now at 13 employees, will grow to around 100 in three to five years.

Vanquish will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in late 2010.
