Batman: Arkham Asylum 'Game of the Year Edition' Coming to North America with 3D Glasses

That enhanced Game of the Year-branded re-release of Batman: Arkham Asylum is also coming to North America, publishers Square Enix and Warner Bros confirmed today.

As with the European edition, the North American re-release sees TriOviz 3D support added to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, with the retail package including the 3D glasses required to take advantage of said support.

However, the North American version differs from the European release in at least one regard, as the European edition packs six previously downloadable challenge maps on the map disc, while the North America edition only packs four.

That two-map difference is likely due to the odd circumstances surrounding the free "Prey in the Darkness" add-on, the two maps of which hit Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Europe but were PlayStation 3 exclusive in North America.

Coming to all three platforms--PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360--Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition arrives in Europe on March 16 and North America on May 11.

I wonder if 3D glasses-required games will be a trend. I hope not, as I am physically unable to use them.

I would be surprised if it's something you can't turn off.
