The launch trailer is an old and somewhat stodgy video games tradition but great things can still come of the genre, such as this fine one for 4A Games' shooter Metro 2033.

Based upon the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro 2033 explores above and below the ruined city of Moscow, deep in nuclear winter and inhabited by mutated horrors.

Metro 2033 hits PC and Xbox 360 today in North America, on Thursday in Europe. The PC edition boasts DirectX 11 support for smooth tessellation and depth of field effects.

My only real concern given the full price tag is the length, reputed at around 8hrs. I will probably pick this up on PC regardless given that I am a sucker for atmospheric shooters though.
