Battle vs. Chess Announced

Looking to "breathe new life" into Chess, TopWare and Zuxxez today unveiled a "progressive title [aimed] at developing a unique fusion between vivid 3D environments & characters, professional chess software and upbeat combat visuals & mechanics."

The cleverly-named "Battle vs. Chess" is based upon ChessBase's "world renowned Fritz! chess algorithm software" and due out in May 2010 at an unknown price-point.

As for platforms, TopWare only made a vague mention of "multiple" in its announcement, though the official site sports PC, Mac, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS logos

I helped come up with a similar idea a couple years back as a project for SIGGraph at UIUC.

I'm surprised the article didn't mention Battle Chess, that's the game I remember as bringing battle sequences to chess pieces. Their names are even very similar.

I cant see many people spending more then $10 on a chess game... I would only buy it if it has steam achievements etc.
Playing chess vs a computer gets boring after a while.

If this was on PS3 it would be a done deal purchase.. as is unless it has Steam support with Steamworks and achievements it's a no go. Shame really.
