Medal of Honor Screenshots Go Dark

4
Having already offered us a glimpse of the light, publisher Electronic Arts now takes us into the dark with the second batch of screenshots from the upcoming Medal of Honor.

Bringing the long-running World War II shooter series into the modern-day, Medal of Honor hits PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime between July 1 and September 30, 2010. The single-player portion is being developed in a "heavily-modified Unreal 3 engine" by franchise veterans EALA, while Battlefield developer DICE is crafting the multiplayer portion with the Frostbite technology used in Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

    Why two separate engines??

Maybe Frostbite is better at dynamic things (such as buildings collapsing in different ways) and U3 is better at other stuff needed for SP?

That, or DICE got the job for the MP portion and insisted/were asked to use their engine for it.

It's messy, but not unheard of. GRAW/GRAW 2, Wolfenstein, etc. Likely related to split development and engine limitations/features.

Didn't Tribes actually use two engines simultaneously? A standard FPS engine for the in-door areas and a flight-sim engine for the outdoor environment?

It's probably a tools issue. No one outside of DICE has ever used the Frostbite engine. Since EALA is doing the SP campaign, they're probably sticking to UE3 because it's more familiar.
