Mafia 2 Gets In-Game Playboy Magazine for 'Sophistication and Classic Imagery'
by Chris Faylor, Mar 08, 2010 5:23am PSTJoining the likes of Metal Gear Solid 4, publisher 2K Games today revealed that 2K Czech's recently delayed mobster game sequel Mafia 2 will allow players to collect copies of Playboy magazine--a move the company says will "bring sophistication and classic imagery" to the title.
"Mafia II is set when Playboy first came into vogue and features characters whose style and attitudes mirror content from our early issues," Playboy editorial director Jimmy Jellinek explained in today's announcement. "We're excited to bring an element of authenticity to the game that is unmatched in the men's publishing category."
Over fifty "vintage [Playboy] covers and centerfolds" will be found in the game--coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 between August 1 and October 31, 2010--with 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann adding: "We are able to add a unique element of authenticity to the game by using vintage images from the magazine that illustrate the power of Playboy's influence on the attitudes and culture of that generation."

And since when are pictures of naked women sophisticated? You can be a member of MENSA, smoking a pipe and wearing a top-hat while looking at porn, but that makes you no more sophisticated than the teenager that does it while picking his nose and drinking a RedBull. It's porn -- it's sole existence is to beat off to it, alone, as you grunt and sweat.
If you think about it, the genius of Playboy was/ is all about marketing. If you can make the messy, fist-pumping act of masturbation classy and sophisticated, well that's just brilliant.
