SOCOM 4 Announced; Zipper Developing

Now that the online-only, 256-player FPS MAG has been released, developer Zipper Interactive is ready to develop its next title. Thankfully, we don't have to wait very long to find out what it is and when we'll be playing the game.

In a post on the PlayStation.Blog, Zipper community maanager Jeremy Dunhamn announced SOCOM 4, set for release this fall exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

This title will also bring singleplayer back to the franchise after it went multiplayer-only with Slant Six Games' SOCOM: Confrontation, released in 2008. Here's what we know about the campaign:

A militant revolutionary has unexpectedly seized control in an important South Asian country. As the Ops Com, your mission is to command an elite five-man squad charged with stopping his aggressive agenda before it's too late. In only six days, you must lead your team through a hostile jungle and urban environments against an army of well-armed rebel insurgents that completely outnumber you.

SOCOM 4 will also support 32-player multiplayer and Zipper Interactive remains committed to supporting MAG before and after the release at SOCOM 4. IGN has an exclusive preview of the game and GameTrailers TV will premiere the first video of the game tonight at 12:30AM ET/PT on SpikeTV.
