Ubisoft Announces Shaun White Skateboarding
by Brian Leahy, Mar 04, 2010 11:30am PSTFresh off of his second Olympic gold medal for snowboarding, Shaun White's video game portfolio is expanding to include skateboarding. Ubisoft have announced Shaun White Skateboarding is developed by Ubisoft Montreal for a holiday 2010 release.
"The game will be available on PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii," Ubisoft tells Shacknews. While no in-game images or video have been released, Shaun was happy to comment on the new title, saying "I can't describe how excited I am about the skateboard game. We've been working on it for a while now and it's ready to melt minds."
For those that are not aware, Shaun is also an accomplished skateboarder, though he is most famous for his accomplishments in the sport of snowboarding. This will also mark Shaun's return to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC as his most recent title, Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage was a Wii-exclusive.

Publishers can threaten to pull out of the PC game market claiming that there is no money to be made due to piracy. I think that anyone who dares to use that excuse to force more DRM down our throats should indeed stop making PC games. Even if all the top-tier game developers and publishers simultaneously exited the PC gaming business, new developers will come in and fill that void (with much lower budgets), similar to what is happening with iPhone game development.
Even with rampant piracy, at some point an equilibrium will be reached between how much it costs to develop a game and how much profit a developer could expect in return. Adding non-DRM features for legitimate registered buyers would significantly increase that. Things like free or even paid-for DLC, beta keys to upcoming games, reduced price on future games, access to developer communities for modders, etc, all add a tremendous amount of value that can't be easily duplicated by downloading an ISO over the internet.

I want a skate game where Ramping can be fun and intuitive. Hope White delivers a game as good as his Olympic Gold. That was just insane!
