Evening Reading: A World Where Macs Play Games?

by Brian Leahy, Mar 03, 2010 5:00pm PST

So, it looks like Valve is getting ready to announce Steam for OS X and Mac, which probably fulfills some prophecy about games on Macs and the end of days. I don't even know what I would do with real games on my MacBook without having to Boot Camp into Windows.

In a perfect world, Steam on OS X will include some super, high-tech Windows emulation written by Valve and Shakespeare that renders every game released on Steam playable, day one, on a Mac... at 60 frames-per-second... in 1080p.

While I'm sure that won't happen, it looks like Valve's own catalogue might be getting the port-treatment with hints pointing to The Orange Box and Left 4 Dead references in the artwork circulating the net today. We should hear more at GDC 2010 (along with some Portal business). Hopefully, if true, there will be a good amount of day one support with ports and ports of popular Steam titles.

I could keep writing, but I want to play more Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Your Game of the Evening is:

Demon's Souls: "This game just does so many things right. I have never played a game that was such a perfect combination of unforgiving frustration and total awesomeness. I haven't felt such a sense of completion or satisfaction from a game in a long, long time. I bought a PS3 just to play this and I have no regrets." (RogerDandy)

Remember to submit your choices for Game of the Evening in this comments thread.

Excited about the new Sonic? Mega64 ain't.
