Total Annihilation and Expansion Available on Impulse
by Brian Leahy, Mar 03, 2010 2:30pm PSTStardock has re-released Cavedog and Chris Taylor's classic real-time strategy game Total Annihilation on its Impulse digital distribution platform for $9.99. The download includes the game's first expansion, "Core Contingency".
Exclusive to Impulse, this marks the first time Total Annihilation is available via digital download. Supreme Commander 2--the latest from Taylor's Gas Powered Games--is exclusive to Steam. Its previous release, Demigod, was exclusive to Impulse.
"Being huge strategy fans at Stardock, we're excited to be able to bring this awesome PC gaming experience exclusively to fans of Impulse," said Stardock's CEO and President Brad Wardell in a press release. "Total Annihilation is personally one of my all-time favorite games, and it makes a fantastic addition to the Impulse catalogue."
Now if only Stardock had brought back Boneyards!

Too bad the second one didn't live up to the ads...the ad's made it look really damn good.

You can play TA multiplayer with an upgraded (sweet) engine. Obviously, if you want to play the SP campaign, you'll want to snag the original, but honestly the Spring engine is quite excellent and playing TA spring really captures the feel of the original.
I'm a big fan of the series and I'm very disappointed with SupCom2, so I'd like to see people get interested in the original and spring versions again. Maybe it will show them how much they screwed the series up.
Total Annihilation is pretty much one of my favorite RTS' ever, right up there with Herzog Zwei. The resource model, the physics, the scalable graphics, the massive user-moddability of it and oh god the soundtrack.
