Trumpeting the success of the Plants vs. Zombie, developer PopCap today declared that the recently-launched iPhone and iPod touch iteration has "is the top-grossing iPhone launch ever" and has set a new record for iTunes App Store launches. Since its release on February 15, the $2.99 release of Plants vs. Zombies has sold over 300,000 copies in the App Store, pulling in more than $1 million gross.

Further tooting its own horn, PopCap also noted that the iPhone/iPod touch version of Bejeweled 2 "is now the first paid app to reach 3 million units on the App Store."

I'm not surprised. PvZ is fun and has this feeling of solid quality despite its low cost.

Yeah it helps that it was already an established game ported to a device which can handle it.

You'll notice that most of the really good iPhone games out there already existed as games prior to the iPhone version. There's very few top notch games which are iPhone originals (Doodle Jump, Rolando, etc.)

They worked on PvZ for three years, longer than iPhone development's been possible, or the iPhone itself has even been released.
