MAG Patch 1.02 Arriving Overnight

9
The official MAG blog posted the details for patch 1.02 in anticipation of its overnight release. The update goes live at 1am Pacific (Wed., Feb. 17, 2010).

Most of the things players will immediately notice center on refinements to the medical support role. Once patched, only players with a kit to revive fallen comrades will be marked with a cross. Likewise, only those carrying that kit will see the "incapacitated" tag on downed players.

Behind the scenes the patch changes stat keeping in the game to support future integration of them into the MAG.com website and fixes XP requirements for levels 36 and 37. Server improvements are also part of the deal with improved performance to reduce lag in heavily populated games.

Also on the blog the devs posted another in their series of tips. This latest one covers the Commando class. They also promise another tomorrow focusing on the Direct Action class.

So now that the finished product is out there, how do you like it? I was put off by the beta but I'm curious about the retail release.

I finally played a little last night and it's definitely better than I expected. Only ran a couple of the scrimmages -- can't recall what they're called exactly -- but it ran well and had a pace somewhere between MW2 and a Tom Clancy game. Squads were actually working together too which stunned me. I actually may have to dig out my Bluetooth headset before getting back on.

Yeah the problem with the beta was that people didn't know how to play. Right now most of the players know what they are doing. So you'll actually get revived when downed and everyone is working fairly well together. More people still need headsets though but that is even better than it was in the beta.

Feels good to pass judgment on things you have no clue about doesn't it?

I love it. I love the feeling of moving in a huge platoon and commanding my small squad. I like being the one to sneak around the enemy lines planting a bomb on the AA battery, watching the fireworks and then smiling as my team starts parachuting in by the dozen. People calling it an extremely average or poor shooter either have no clue how to actually play the game and help their squad or too used to seeing a grenade or tracer every 2 seconds in MW2.
