Morning Discussion

As a video games fan, I always enjoyed the rush of news that accompanies events such as yesterday's X10. As a video games media-ish person however who plays a part in disseminating the deluge, I somewhat want to crawl back into bed and pretend it's Saturday. Though there was some nice stuff, and stuff.

If you find your thumbs a little idle this weekend then rejoice, for Idle Thumbs has returned. The traitorous Nick Bredon has of course abandoned them too but Steve 'Hot Scoops' Gaynor will be joining former Shacknews virtuoso Chris Remo and Jackie 'Video Games' Rodkins permanently to replace the Tunnel Commander. Good times.

Though if you're in the Laaandan area, you can also put your thumbs to good use flicking through comics, zines and book arts at the Alternative Press Festival 2010.

And due to the inferior screen for extended reading, you'll decide that the ipad is best left attached to the fridge with magnets and used as a high-tech wacky message board for friends & family.

I wonder if you could sign up for a multiple year contract of Prime to get one, or if they'd want you to be an existing customer who orders a lot.

what do you order that makes it worth it? it seems like every item i'm interested in (household goods) are not prime eligible like:
        -sonicare brushes
        -timtams

blu-rays - they usually have the best prices
360/ps3/wii games - usually the best prices and lots of new releases have like $10 gift cards if you pre-order

then diapers, baby stuff, eneloop batteries, etc

I just searched and I see sonicare brushes, they are prime eligible, and they even have a subscribe and save for them too

No tax for me in Indiana is the icing on the cake.

Games for sure. Between saving at least ~$5 from preordering, you also avoid tax, so you're saving like $8-$10 on new games, not counting other bonuses and promotions (free release date delivery). If you buy Atlus games anywhere else, you fucking fail.

The daily deals and lightning deals fucking rock as well, in addition to the generally solid prices.

there computer hardware prices are as good as newegg a lot of the time. It's just hard to find hardware on their site, so I usually locate what I want through newegg and then search for the product id on amazon.

Not necessarily, if you bring in a bunch of new customers they might find Kindle to be better than they expected all along. I think it's romantic for loyal customers to think this way, but in reality any more traction on their program is a Win-Win.

    • reply
      February 12, 2010 6:48 AM

That would be pretty cool, but it's still the price of the books that bothers me, not the price of the device. I still like having physical books, so I'd use a Kindle as a supplement, not a replacement. $7-$10 for a second "copy" of a book doesn't make me smile.

I've gotten some free books from the Kindle store to read on the iPhone app though, so hey.

They're smart cookies. Everyone I know with Prime (including myself and my family) orders shit they might not have done just because they have Prime, so it follows that they are the type of people that would buy e-books even if they've had no previous interest.
