New media for BioWare's upcoming RPG expansion, Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, is here to introduce Velanna, a key character who will accompany players on a new quest in the land of Amaranthine.

As a Dalish elf, Velanna doesn't exactly trust humans. In fact, she despises them, and is guaranteed to be a handful for any Grey Warden she meets. Velanna can also turn trees into Ent-like hulks of destruction.

A bit more insight into what makes the latest role-playing racist tick:

Humans took the Dalish elves' lands, burned their cities to the ground, and forced their people to live as slaves. The Dalish have forgotten their language, culture, and history--all because of the humans. Now, they roam the land in ragged bands, holding onto the fragments of their past. Is it any wonder that hatred for humans runs deep in Velanna's heart? Raised as a first to her clan's keeper, Velanna knows how much has been lost, and her pride demands that her people lose no more. She is nature's hand, an instrument of vengeance, and she will never submit. Creators help those who get in her way.

Awakening requires a copy of Dragon Age: Origins and is priced at $39.99. Awakening hits North America on March 16 and Europe on March 19 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

In addition, developer BioWare is readying another Dragon Age--this one slated to hit PC, consoles and handheld(s)--for release between January 1 and March 31, 2011.
