Word that Quantic Dream's psychological PlayStation 3 adventure has gone gold in North America and is off to manufacturing emerged out of publisher Sony today, putting the game well in-line for the previously announced February 23 release.

In addition, Sony confirmed that a free downloadable demo will be available February 11 via the PlayStation Store, and provided a scary new trailer for ogling as well.

According to the official PlayStation.Blog announcement, the demo will include two playable chapters from the game, "...featuring Norman Jayden, an FBI agent brought in to help local authorities track down the Origami Killer, and Scott Shelby, a private detective hired by the families of past victims of the Origami Killer to find the serial killer."

Heavy Rain comes out for the PlayStation 3 in North America on February 23rd, mainland Europe on February 24th, and the UK and Ireland on February 26th.

Please don't suck... please don't suck...

This game looks like it could be a modern version of those old Sierra Police Story games. If the story is good, characters well developed, enough variety in the choices you can make to affect the outcome of the game... it could be good.

Either way kudos to the developer for taking a shot at something different.

You know a lot of games like that? No... so it is different.

For it to be good its got to be more engaging than pressing buttons when prompted. We'll see soon enough.

          The developer's previous game, perhaps?

I'm not discounting that? Why are we still talking in questions?

FWIW, I really quite enjoyed Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy (at least until I encountered a game-stopping bug and the story went nuts). I'm just arguing that pursuing a movie-like quality in games isn't exactly new or different.

I had no idea about Indigo Prophecy. Just watched some gameplay on youtube. With enough variety in the consequences of your actions I think Heavy Rain could be interesting.
