Gears of War Stars Cameo in Lost Planet 2

With Capcom having teased some sort of collaboration with Microsoft, and Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski having teased "kick ass news soon," Capcom has announced that its Xbox 360 release of Lost Planet 2 will sport Gears of War cameos.

Specifically, the two stars of Epic and Microsoft's Xbox 360-centric Gears franchise--Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago--will be playable characters in Lost Planet 2's multiplayer mode, as reported by andriasang and glimpsed in the below trailer:

As revealed this morning, Lost Planet 2 hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18.

For me, "kick ass news" would be Epic finally abandoning their "Slab Bulkhead" art style that they've been using for the last 8 years in favor for a truly new franchise that could have fun gameplay mechanics. I doubt that this is the case, unfortunately.

Smells like Microsoft and Epic got a paycheck for letting Capcom use some art assets. It's Interesting seeing this approach of game characters from separate "universes" being fused together. The Uncharted 2 Heroes skin pack is another recent tactic like this. It does cost a lot of time and money to make these characters, maybe this is just a way of trying to recoup cost.
