Shiren the Wanderer Trailer: 'Face the Bosses'

7
The third entry in ChunSoft's dungeon-crawling RPG series Shiren the Wanderer is just about to hit North America in Wii form, leading publisher Atlus to release a new trailer.

Known in Japan as Shiren 3, Shiren the Wanderer hits North America on February 9. While the franchise has been around since the Super Nintendo era, it didn't hit North America until Sega bought over the Nintendo DS remake of the first in March 2008.

Should you be interested in more of the roguelike, the first trailer is below:

if its like the last shiren game on the ds, its anything but an action-rpg... that was a straight-up turn-based roguelike. looking forward to this, because the last one is one of my all-time favorite games... unless of course its no longer adhering to its roguelike roots...

the later portion of that video looks like a roguelike, though it has huge bosses

im fine with pretty graphics for monsters instead of letters, as long as it adheres to the core qualities of roguelikes, im there... but id be willing to bet permadeath isnt in this one... i just cant see them doing that on a wii game.

although, the DS one DID have permadeath (of a sort, you lose all your gear and levels, and only keep what was in storage, which is about as close to permadeath as you can expect a modern game to get anymore) so maybe it will...

I kinda bought the game expecting it to be more of an awesome Shining Soul like game and was somewhat disappointed when it turned out to be rogue-like.
Not a bad game though, but certainly could have been better.
