A "spirital successor to Titan Quest" built upon its engine and titled Grim Dawn is in development at Crate Entertainment--founded by veterans of the action RPG's defunct developer Iron Lore--funded by pre-orders, Blue's News brings to our attention.

Set in a fantasy world influenced by the Victorian era, Grim Dawn is describe by Crate as "a spiritual successor to Titan Quest and proud Diablo-clone" toting 200 character levels, crafting blueprints, multiplayer and a "refined loot system" dropping "less junk."

Hoping to keep Grim Dawn privately-funded, Crate is already accepting pre-orders, with packages ranging from a $20 'Normal Edition' which simply gives a copy of the game upon release and "knowing you made the world a little better" to a $48 'Legendary Fan Edition' granting alpha and beta access, an in-game item and a place in the credits.

Grim Dawn is slated for a downloadable release on PC in "early 2011" for $20. The Iron Lore game-in-progress 'Black Legion' that Crate purchased but had difficulty finding a publisher for is seemingly no-longer on the cards, as Grim Dawn is a separate project.

I hope this turns out great. Titan Quest was really fun to play. The loot system was pretty bad, however, the diversity of the classes was amazing. There were so many different combinations you could make. I've always wanted to play TQ and its expansion again, but never had the time. Torchlight has been quite fun too. These ARPGs take up so much time, don't they.

Yeah, it was a great game, I had a blast playing through different character combinations. Never had the willpower to get through to the very end of the game, though, I always seemed to stall out about 2/3-3/4 of the way through.

I only got through it on the first difficulty. It was really fun though. I remember coming up with strategies, respeccing several times to see which I preferred. If only I got better loot. It would have compelled me to play many more hours.

Lot of mods out there, my favorite is the 10x monster mod.

Or if you played with friends. I bought copies for me and two friends and I put 100 hours into it, playing through all three difficulties and getting awesome loot in the process.

(I bought the copies when TQ gold was $10 on Steam, so it was a no brainer)

I only played TQ for a bit. It seemed like a very good game, but the lack of multiplayer and rewarding loot system kinda made me lose interest.

Yeah seriously, multiplayer was in TQ from the start. It was fairly fun, but I always felt rushed trying to keep up with other players who would just blow through enemies and keep on running.

Uh, TQ has multiplayer. And co-op.

The multiplayer is what MADE Titan Quest so awesome. TQ gold on steam might just be the best 10 gaming dollars I've ever spent. (actually 30 dollars, since I bought copies for friends at the same time)

There were some pretty good mods too that introduced new skills and whatnot!

My only problem was that there was no skill that you could take to make attack damage/str dependant items become based off of intelligence so that the player can experiement with hybrid melee/magic builds.

True, but you *could* equip up to 3 pieces of jewelry, giving you a combined +45Str AND +60%Str, as well as Artifacts to increase that either another +25-30Str, or another +10-25%Str. Not to mention the items themselves which may have multipliers. I remember one char had Gear so dependent on other items that if I swapped to my second weapon set, I lost the use of 3 pieces of armor.
Now, as far as DEX based items are concerned, just SOOL. I never saw a Dex +xx%, only +xx. There were Int +xx% though. Often, The Jewelry would be Str+xx, Str+xx% and Int+xx%. Or Int/Int%/Str%.
At least it wasn't like Dungeon Siege where 90% of the stuff you find is like 45 points higher than you can POSSIBLY REACH.
