Napoleon: Total War Gets Campaign Multiplayer
by Chris Faylor, Jan 20, 2010 2:20pm PSTWith owners of Empire: Total War currently beta testing the promised addition of campaign multiplayer, publisher SEGA has announced that the latest entry in the series, Napoleon: Total War (PC), will sport that functionality when it hits on February 23.
"For the first time in Total War history, the Campaign Mode in Napoleon: Total War will feature both single player and multiplayer modes," SEGA wrote of the latest from its historical strategy series developer The Creative Assembly.
The game's three campaigns--Italy, Egypt and Europe--will support two-person competitive and/or cooperative online multiplayer, with the game also getting a one-versus-one matchmaking feature in the form of "drop-in battles," where enemies can be "controlled in real-time by an online adversary."
No word as to when Empire's multiplayer will leave beta, though creative director Mike Simpson noted that the company has seen "great feedback...from our fans for the Empire Multiplayer Campaign Beta" and wishes to thank them "for all their support."

I was really disappointed with the first game. I felt the naval portion was completely tacked on and just didn't matter, especially when the AI didn't use naval transports. The siege battles just don't work (death by path planning) and I felt like most battles could be resolved with similar tactics.
I know this is one of the great sandbox RTS games, but I'd love to see more pre-set historical battles that present tactical/strategic challenges. I'd love to see naval incorporated into the land more, like Horatio Hornblower-esque raids, taking out shore batteries, and more.
I love this time period but I want more out of the game. Also, will Wellington be in this pack?
