Elder Scrolls MMO Rumors Keep Swirling as Bethesda Seeks to Redact 'Secret Information'

20
As the Fallout MMO courtroom drama between Interplay and Bethesda continues to unfold, a recent filing has reignited the long-running rumors that Bethesda and parent company ZeniMax are readying an MMO based in The Elder Scrolls universe.

Specifically, Bethesda requests certain parts of its recent testimony be censored before the transcripts are made public, as "trade secret information" regarding "a particular game not at issue" would "destroy their value by placing them in the public domain and making them available to [Bethesda's] competitors."

Word of the filing emerged via Duck and Cover, which reports that the transcripts indicate ZeniMax Online's long-coming MMO is on a four-year development schedule and entered development in 2007, suggesting that it's due to launch sometime in 2011.

And while the identity of the MMO has yet to be officially confirmed, VG247 added fuel to the long-standing rumors, claiming it has been "very reliably informed" that it's an Elder Scrolls MMO and must be "very close to reveal by now."

This would be awesome...potentially awesome. As long as it keeps its skill based fighting and doesnt turn it into a macro fest like wow, it should be sweet.

I would hate to see the game turn into a "press 1-5 to win" type MMO.

WoW is only like that until about level 15, from what I could tell. I'm lvl 35 now, started a few months ago, and now I would say it is very skill-based, but in a sense that you need to stay focused and press the right buttons at the right time, and have foresight to manage your ability points, etc.

but you just started it. I quit WoW 1.5 years ago (never looked back btw) and I was level 70 then and I agree with Cavity about macros. Of course it's not just it but basically yes.

I remember with my pally I had maybe 50 spells while 95% of time I used 3...

If you were playing a ret pally, that could be why. they're not exactly the most difficult class to play, try a shadowpriest or a warlock for something thats less of a faceroll.

        here's a friendly tip.

QUIT WOW WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!

it all seems great now, but once you reach top level everything is bland and the same and all you do while playing is look for that feeling of exploration you had in the beginning but it is gone.

if you don't your life will suffer tremendously, and it will be extremely hard to quit. ask most of people who left.

          Here is a better tip.

Play WoW as long as you find it entertaining. Quit when it's no longer entertaining.

There's a difference between the ability to calm your mind and press button sequences in response to cues, and reflex-based movement and aim.

Admittedly, the Elder Scrolls games never took much skill due to the abysmal movement speeds, open spaces and blow-exchange combat.
