The Independent Games Festival has unveiled the finalists for its 2010 main competition, revealing a selection ranging from retro to modern and abstract to hardcore.

Relatively well-known titles AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! -- A Reckless Disregard For Gravity and Heroes of Newerth are both up for awards alongside titles you might not know yet but could see a lot more of in the future--previous IGF winners who have found fame include World of Goo, Castle Crashers, Audiosurf, Darwinia, Machinarium and Braid.

The IGF reports a record number of entries this year for the main competition as well as its mobile and student contests, whose finalists have yet to be announced.

The winners will be announced on March 11 during this year's Games Developer's Conference, with "nearly $50,000 in prizes" up for grabs. The full list of finalists follows.

HoN has the worst player base I've ever seen in a multiplayer game, EVER. Seriously, I was in the beta, and it looked like every pathetic embittered dork who gets bullied in school played it to relieve his anger at others. I played in the "NOOBS ONLY" servers (because I'm new to this sort of game) and there wasn't a single match where the "more experienced players" wouldn't insult others and call others "fcking noobs" and whine when someone's level was too low, or if someone didn't know what items to buy etc. It's was just pathetic....

you never played DotA, the player base is about the same, my advice is to play with friends until you are ready to solo in pubs.

Over 230 hours spent playing...yikes! That's more than I've played Oblivion, though I think Morrowind probably takes the cake.
