MAG Open Beta Kicks Off

Assuming all has gone to plan, the open beta for Zipper's MAG should now be live on PlayStation 3, allowing everyone to sample the latest from the SOCOM veterans.

The beta was slated to kick off at 5 AM PST today, and is scheduled to run until January 10 at 11:50 PM PST, with the client currently available as a free PlayStation Store download. Two game modes are included--the 64-player Sabotage and 256-player Domination--with the completed online shooter slated to hit North American retailers on January 26.

Be forewarned that the 298MB client doesn't represent the entirety of the beta--there'll be another 1.8 to 2.3 GB to download after starting it up. Hence "assuming all has gone to plan" above, as someone didn't preload and must now wait on the download.

It's pretty fun actually. But, I'm seriously in love with the ranking system, you know how you can play 3 matches in a row against players 10 levels higher than your entire team put together and you lose in 3 minutes because you are always defending for 20 minutes... I mean 3. Oh so fun...

I am really digging the Beta so far. I play MW, not too good at it actually, and love Battlefield. This has huge open maps in which I can actually snipe things. I am pleasantly surprised and has potential. The shooting feels like STALKER to me for some reason.

I'll definitely dl this later to check it out. I haven't cared much about Zipper since they stopped making Socom games to make this (mistake if you ask me) and Bad Company 2 Beta was awesome so I'd rather get that. Then again if this beta/demo is really good I guess I could be persuaded but already got friends that are getting BC2 for multiplayer.
