Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, Jan 04, 2010 5:00am PSTWakey wakey, eggs and bacy! It's 2010, rise and shine! Awake from your brief mince pie-induced hibernation, video games. There are boatloads of returning refugees who had fled from Modern Warfare 2 so you've got a whole lot of work to do. Hop to it.
Reminder: it really is 2010. Don't date cheques or letters 2009. Because that's what people do when a new year starts, don't they? You date your letters 2009, eh? Eh? Don't you? 2009! A whole year ago! Eh? It's 2010 now though love, get with the program. Eh? What are you like! "2009!" You're mad, you are.

Examples:
- Sean from The Saboteur (who I really dislike)
- Ezio/Altair (Assassin's Creed)
- any of the GTA guys (Tommy is the best, then CJ, then Nico)
- Crackdown guy (skills for kills!)
- Space Asshole
so vote for your favorite, make a write-in choice, discuss why Sean is boring and has bad jokes and is one-dimensionally angry and Irish.

I got my 880 in the mail today it's pretty nice and controls everything perfectly except for the TV. It won't switch the TV to the correct input. I have a Proscan 40" LCD and it doesn't feature discreet input buttons just have to hit input until the right one comes up. Of course I bought it on ebay and it tells me I'm entitled to no phone support unless I pay $29.
Has anyone had a similar issue? I wish it would let me manually program how many times to send the switch input command but I haven't found it.

My crazy, one-eyed, knappy cat needs to be shaved. His name is Benny and he is a rescue. His fur in places is very matted, into chunky feline dreadlocks. He is fully clawed and so skittish and jumpy that there is no way to accomplish this without sedation or extreme calming medicines. The vet says they can do it (putting him to sleep) for about $400-$500. This is insane. I believe I can shave this cat for considerably less. I have read about using Benedryl and other over the counter pet products to soothe/relax dogs and cats (nail clipping, grooming, travel, vet visits, storms/thunder, etc.). I would like to hear from any of you who have successfully sedated and/or relaxed a cat (or dog) to know what technique(s) you used, what medicines (if any), etc. My wife believes the only way is let the vet do it, but CRAP, $500 is alot of clams. I admit, going the vet route has a certain logic, but some brief searching on the internet shows that many many people do this sort of thing at home safely, with no risk to their pets or them selves. Anyone execute a successful home cat shaving before?

When we catch a brief break, all the gas cans remaining have disappreared and respawned in their original positions which is just BULLSHIT.
The subwoofer that came with my 5.1 speakers has connections for the left and right fronts, with some kind of built-in adjustable crossover. They recommend passing the L/R fronts through this thing, claiming it gives better, more full sound. They describe a couple methods of doing this, including telling the receiver you have large front speakers and no sub, to both telling it you have large or small front speakers AND using the normal LFE connection.
I have a decent midrange receiver, a Denon AVR-790. These are not high end speakers. http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Technology-Cinema-60-6-System/dp/B001GOK9GE/ (Though I'm hoping they're higher quality than the $400 price tag suggests. They are a limited availability model so this is probably a clearance price. They've been superceded by the 600 set which Amazon and other online stores actually sell for the $800 MSRP, which on these is $700)
Is the manufacturer's recommendation here probably just the foolproof method because they're assuming people might have a shit receiver or not know how to set it up? It just seems strange to me to have my receiver process the sound then take its final output and run it through some extra circuitry. I mean who knows what the quality or limitations are. (and why should I give a shit about this when my center is going to be directly connected anyway?)
Will I be best off just connecting everything directly and properly setting up my receiver?

so i'm about 7 hrs in on normal on the 360. whoever said that this game changes from god of war to zelda a few hrs in was right. everytime i opened up a locked door in a dungeon, i expect to hear that zelda unlock soundbite. i think i'm about half way done, so figure about 14 hrs of SP on normal.
9/10, if you like GoW/Zelda.

So, I want to get a Kindle for MY FIANCEE' for her birthday because she is a reading junkie. I know they have two versions and the main discernible variations are the size and memory. As much as I would love to get the bigger version, saving for my wedding puts the kibosh on $500.
I guess what I really want is to be sure the small version is "good enough" not to worry about saving for the bigger one. I'm the sort of person that will worry and feel bad that I didn't get the better version of something after I buy if I'm not sure beforehand.
Is the non-DX version good or whack?
