Evening Reading: Putting the Oughts to Bed

892
If you'd told me last New Year's Eve that a year later I'd be writing the last Evening Reading of the decade on Shacknews I'd probably have looked at you dumbfounded. Sitting here doing it this evening I couldn't be more pleased with how things have worked out. Getting reacquainted with Shack has been great. We've got a great team, a great community, and fantastic support to carry us into 2010 and well beyond.

We've been posting our games to look forward to in 2010 today. I'll have mine coming tomorrow along with a collection of our resolutions for the New Year. Hope you'll take a moment to check them out and add to the conversation when time allows. Have a fun and safe New Year's Eve whatever your celebration plans.

I'll leave you with this great quote my friend Sterling tweeted earlier today: "The world isn't coming to an end. It's already tomorrow in Australia."

It's been stuck at like 200-300k/s on steam for me. So glad I waited for a sale, though.

You may want to restart Steam if your Crysis download is slow. I just did and my download speed went from ~150K/s to ~1.5M/s.

You should try switching to the south American or greenland/Finland steam content server.

I've played about 10 matches so far.

Overall it is a beta for sure. There is a lot of potential to this game. The sound effects are nice when they work. I noticed that sometimes there were no sounds for lasers, player movement and other stuff. The enviroments were neat but some times tricky to navigate with a lot of clipping issues. Some trees I could plow down with my tank and other times, a little hill would flip him over. I felt a lot of times that my weapons were not really having that much effect. Getting a joystick to work is like rocket science sometimes. Be prepared to invest serious time to get a configuration that will work for you. The graphics are good, definatly better than previous Mech games but no where close to Crysis itself. I eagerly await future versions of this game and really hope for a single player campaign. Multiplayer is definatly the better ping wins.

I'm almost half-way through with the Crysis download. I'll ask Steam to give the bandwidth I was using to you when it's done.

it helps to ask your teammates where the action is, they'll usually provide a grid location and you can head there. Or just watch the horizon for mushroom clouds - twice tonight I asked where shit was going down only to see a huge mushroom cloud on the horizon seconds after I asked.

Anyone played Crysis with an older machine (more towards the min reqs)? I love me some Mechwarrior but I don't know if it's worth trying on my rig.
