Morning Discussion: New Year's Eve Edition

Today is the day you can feel absolutely fantastic about the past year and be determined to continue that high into 2010. Alternatively, feel absolutely wrecked and broken by 2009 and make a resolution to somehow drag yourself out of the mire by your nails. I don't believe any other option is permitted, for some reason.

You'll probably drink alcohol tonight and deserve everything you get the next morning, so don't even think about complaining. Besides, it only serves to distract you from the real entertainment--arguing over whether today is the end of the decade or merely a decade.

The news desk is unpersoned today and tomorrow but we'll have a few little features to make up for our shameful absence. Have fun, Internet. We'll see you in the future!

    steam sale

Ive never played any of the Civ games, but I think Im gonna snag Civ IV on the steam sale.

Should I just get the complete edition, for $13, or are the expansions not worth it?

Get the complete edition because Civ4 is awesome+ with Beyond the Sword. Also, you get Sid Meier's voice and a LOT of fun stuff with it.

If you don't buy it, I'll come over and punch you.

          GRRRRR

I have a suggestion: buy it - it will eat some many hours of your gametime that it will be very difficult to buy another (more expensive) game for the next months

          trust me

Sid Meier's voice? It's Leonard Nimoy that does the tech voice.

neither did I. next to Nimoy it sounded like some nerd who worked on the game just filled in. Guess I was sort of right.

Warlords' content is included in BtS except for some scenarios, and Colonization is a totally different game.

Do not buy the Civ IV pack. There's too much gaming goodness there and it's too god damn addictive. If you value your real life obligations in the slightest, avoid the game at all costs. It is way, way, way too easy to lost 8-12 hours to it without realizing it. I'm not fucking kidding. It's dangerously addictive. It makes heroin look like sugar.

And to add to the above, Colonization is a rather fun game, with a very different approach than the core Civ game. It's definitely worth it.

I effing bought this game at retail this past summer and have turned my place upside down trying to find the discs, but they're nowhere to be found. I just know that if I re-buy this on Steam, the discs will turn up two days later.

        WHAT SHOULD I DO?

        • reply
          December 31, 2009 8:49 AM

That was fast. I broke and re-bought it. Easier to play from Steam rather than disc, anyway.

If I ever find the original, I guess I'll just give it away to someone.
