There's a really good CHUD article about how much Avatar changed from his original scriptment that came out right after Titanic to the movie we actually saw:

So, my girlfriend posted on her facebook feed one day that she wanted a hat made of money (things have been a little tight lately financially). One of her friends saw that post and decided that it would make a good idea for a christmas present. Note that this particular friend has never seen the comic that inspired the use of this phrase.

He got his girlfriend (a seamstress) to help him make a hat....made of money for my girlfriend. Here are pictures below. The construction is actually pretty damned good. The hat is stiff and wearable. The girl obviously knows her stuff.

Twas the night before Christmas

So I'm away from my compy and consoles for the holidays, but I've got Steam and Torchlight running great on the low-budget laptop that I'm stuck with. What an awesome Christmas present from Valve and Runic! (This game is a frickin' steal at $10, let alone $5.)

Any strong opinions on vanquisher or alchemist builds? Think I'll roll with a dual-pistol vanq to start with. How many skill points do you have to work with in the end? I'm sure there are plenty of Torchlight posts out there, but searching would be effort...and c'mon, it's the holidays!

Also, a little magic find goes a long way!

Oh man League of Legends is fun!

I like how I can play for free and unlock dudes instead of buying the game. It adds another little addictive layer to it. I played HoN before and this game seems a bit more newb friendly (actually having a tutorial helps.) The developers also seem more into welcoming new players by running promotions and things as well.

anyone who thinks the demoman got the short end of the upgrades is thinking incorrectly.

holy shit. the whole world is sword/shield/pipes and they are unkillable and dash away from things, or pipe spam and then rush in and oneshot you with the sword.

whoops. hopefully this gets fixed FAST. they can absorb crit rockets which is a whoopsie as well.

I generally can't just buy one song. If I discover a new band/album from a song I heard on the radio or somewhere else I almost always end up buying the entire album. Even if I'm not sure I'm going to like it, or if there are 1 minute "intro" songs that are still priced at $.99, with an album that costs $9.99 and 10 tracks, if I didn't buy the intro it'd cost me a dollar less, but I still buy the whole thing because I don't feel complete unless I do.

Anyone else suffer from this OCD behavior?

For those of you living in the midwest, PA, some parts of Cali, Jersey, and the greater ATL area of GA, I must recommend Microcenter as a hardware supplier. Some of their stuff is overpriced but other stuff is so discounted it makes you wonder how the hell they can do it.

Quick question:

My 8 year old nephew tells me he wants to make video games. Is there a game or program that can help him with this? Kind of like that "Movies" game that came out awhile back, but with video games. Or should I just encourage his mother to sign him up for some community offered entry level programming class.

All said and done, the kid has Asperger's and is really bright and advanced, especially with math.

Before Christmas I picked up a new phone - Nokia's N900. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed with it so far; anyone interested in something like Android might want to check it out. The default browser (mozilla based) is quite nice - it has no trouble with the shack, and is even compatible with the ThomW's Greasemonkey scripts:

And it has no trouble with Flash up to 9.4 - apparently 10 is coming next month, or soon, at least. But youtube and a lot of other stuff works right now:

And yes, that is an Adblock Plus tab on the movie - it has addons just like Firefox. You get 4 desktops and can drop widgets and shortcuts on them wherever you want; window management is all openGL accelerated with gaussian blurs and live thumbnails for switching windows:

App management is similar to Ubuntu- an App Manager that allows you to pull software from official repositories and also add custom repos for 3rd party software. It's all linux underneath, and you have access to a terminal by default, so if you'd rather manage things that way with apt, you can.

So had my first deep fried turkey in Australia tonight. And that's not my first deep fried turkey here, but my first one ever. Kinda cool to try it here for the first time. Kinda cool indeed.

None of the Aussies believed it was possible. No, it would be oily, no it would be disgusting. No it won't cook right. You'll just end up with a fried mess. No you'll burn the place down. No you are just plain nuts.

But they trusted us and the turkey powered through and wow it was a good meal. Here's to a deep fried down under. lol.
