Evening Reading: Christmas Comes Early

by Chris Faylor, Dec 24, 2009 4:00pm PST

What with the holiday and all, I hope you don't mind that this chatty comes a little earlier than normal. Think of it as an early Christmas present--a fresh start, wiping away everything that came before ...well, unless you know how to use comment search.

In case you're just joining us, here's what you missed during the day:

With that out of the way (and iTunes currently playing Elton John's Rocket Man), I do believe it's time for a nice pre-Christmas dinner. Have a safe night, I'll be back in the morning with another fresh and festive chatty. Perhaps it'll even be pine-scented!

  • anyone see The Cove yet? http://www.thecovemovie.com/ I spoke to my cousin last night and he told me what it was about. Pretty hardcore apparently, every dolphin you see in marine parks and such aren't plucked from the sea at random, or rescued and trained because they have no other options. They're bought on the open market and the place where they buy them is this little fishing village in Japan. These guys round up 20,000+ of them a year and buyers from all over the world pick out the few hundred they'll need, selecting for long noses and other esthetic criteria, pay $150k for each one and take them home. The roughly 19,000+ that aren't bought? They're killed so as not to pollute the gene pool with short nosed dolphins and the meat is sent out as tuna or whatever to the rest of the world. fucking Japan..
