A new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 patch has hit PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, bringing changes including a rebalancing of the notorious akimbo Model 1887 shotguns.

A forum post by Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling gives the following quick summary of the patch's changes, while he promises on Twitter that full notes that for this and all previous patches will be released "most likely after Holidays."

  • 1887s Balanced.
  • Public "private" Match fix.
  • Infinite Ammo fix.
  • Prestige Hack on PS3 fix.
  • Texture Hack on PC fix (eliminates any edits to IWD files also).

An exploit allowing you to boost your speed while carrying a care package call in grenade. In conjunction with lightstep and commando you are a knifing machine.

          Is that really an exploit?

Maybe it's balanced to be that way on purpose.

Have you ever sat at a distance and watch one of these guys zig zag and knife 3, 4 guys in a row? They move so fast you can't even tell what they're doing. That can't be on purpose.

there's no way this was done on purpose. if so, they are terrible game designers.

Now there's an argument with some weight.

(I was actually joking about it being intentional; IW dismissed all prior concerns on the grounds of the game not being "balanced" for this feature or that.)
