Morning Discussion: Festivus Edition

I got a lot of problems with you people! Unfortunately it's more than my job's worth to tell you them and I'm not sure the Festivus celebration is afforded legal protection.

Perhaps you have grievances of your own to air? Surely you have something to say about your fellow Shackers or video games over the past year. It's the healthy thing to do.

On a cheerier note, please do share any Festivus miracles too.

i like to watch as people sprint like retards with their bags flailing everywhere for the closing metro doors.

        bonus points for if they:

        - get their bag stuck

        - have the door close inches from their face, i can never get my phone out in time to take a picture of their faces.

        - trip or bull rush into some unsuspecting dude just standing minding his own business

haha or when they just make it, realize how stupid they looked getting in the door and then make some awkward comment while looking for somebody to agree with them.

those assholes must have seen me trying to get in the door, they're lucky they don't get sued!

yeah bro especially since for like 5 full seconds it announces 'doors closing, please stand back from the doors'

I'll admit I've walked quickly to get into a train before the door closed, but if I don't make it, there's normally one in another twotwenty minutes, thanks to WMATA's great scheduling. I also don't run from one end of the platform to the other, flailing around with my tie flapping in the air, trying to squeeze onto an already overcrowded train.

yeah it's sort of my fault though. a bunch of these dudes rsa tokens are expiring on the 31st and i need to assign the replacement tokens for like 80 fuckers on top of the regular daily IT security AD bitch work that is my job.

thing is, most are off now on PTO, so i have to have the admin ship them. she hates me i bet. it's either i do this now or around the 31st i get a shit ton of calls saying i can't login to citrix/vpn!!!

i should have run this report and found out like a month ago, but we just did end of the year audits/review and that was a full time thing as it is. plus the other guy who i share the work with has been out for a week already and not coming back until jan.

You have to do all that by hand? That sucks dude, you should write some badass code to handle it while you shack.

                December 23, 2009 5:17 AM

yep by hand. including emailing/calling each one to find out if they're in the office or if i need to ship it + get their address. so it's not like i can just bang it out.

i change my wish to you writing that code.

Damn dude, that sucks. I hate repetitive tasks like that, but it's always nice that it makes time pass so quickly.

.NET has a lot of management libraries to hook into Active Directory and whatnot. You should seriously check it out sometime, it would make your life a lot easier. It can't do any of the calling/emailing, but you could write a program to take a list of users and do whatever needs to be done automatically. It's fun because if you screw up and accidentally delete their account you have 80 pissed off users instead of just one, so it's pretty sweet.
