PlayStation Home Free-to-Play MMO 'Sodium One' Launched with Vehicular Shooter

What is touted as "the next evolution of PlayStation Home" arrived today in the form of free "multiplayer online game space" Sodium One, launched with a vehicular shooter.

Masquerading as a futuristic sci-fi world with AI gamesmistresses and other such gubbins, Sodium One is a hub world for multiplayer games as well as the usual PS Home socialising, shopping and dress-up fun, all supported by microtransactions.

The first Sodium One game is Salt Shooter, a vehicular shooter where "players must hunt self-replacing robots with tanks in order control their population." The first five levels of its fifty are free while further levels and virtual items can be bought with microtransactions from $0.99 to $4.99, some of which can be earned in game.

Competitive mini-games will also feature, with the bartending 'Desert Quench' and, ah, scorpion-stomping 'Scorpion Stomp' already in place and more planned.

Sodium One is developed by Outso, creator of PlayStation Home areas, games and content for Uncharted 2, inFAMOUS, and Resistance 2 among others.

The press release explains modestly that "the genre-defying Sodium One space will continue to evolve over time," with "new games, community events and virtual items to be added, further revealing the story and offering new experiences and challenges."

I'm going to go in with an open mind. It's so unexpected I want to like it, it'll be like getting an early christmas present if it's any good.
